Desert Mist Diffuser

Desert Mist Diffuser

I am in love with this diffuser.  Inspired by the romantic design of a Moroccan trellis, this beautiful diffuser brings an exotic to flair to any living space and covers approximately 323 square feet.

The Desert Mist Diffuser functions as a humidifier, atomizer, and aroma diffuser in one simple to use product. It uses ultrasonic frequency technology to generate waves at 1.7 million per second, breaking down essential oils and water into millions of microparticles, dispersing them into the air, and releasing the oils’ unique constituents.

desert diffuser

This diffuser is custom designed to diffuse continuously for 5–6 hours on High mode, 8 hours on Low mode, and 10 hours on Intermittent mode.* It also offers 11 individual light settings, including a candle-like flicker mode. The lights can also run independently from diffusion modes or be turned off while diffusing.

The Desert Mist Diffuser comes with free 5-ml bottles of Tangerine and Peppermint essential oils.

The plastic used for the Desert Mist Diffuser is polypropylene. Polypropylene was specifically chosen because it is safe to use with essential oils. The diffuser is BPA free and has no Phalates.

*Run time may vary based on essential oil type and number of drops used.

Essential Oil Life Hacks

With nearly a million variations on 400 smell receptors, everyone senses smell differently.

Essentials oils are no different.  I know many people that LOVE the smell of Young Living’s Joy essential oil blend.  I, personally, do not care for it.  I also know many people, myself included, that think Young Living’s Cedarwood essential oil smells like, well, cat piss.  And I know *one* person that LOVES the smell of Cedarwood.

So what is an essential oil life hack?  Just ways to use YOUR favorite aromatic essential oil.  Doesn’t matter what it is, or what combination it is; as long as it’s pleasant to you, you can use one of these hacks.

I love love love Young Living’s Purification essential oil.  I use it as much as I can for anything aromatic.  But I also like lavender, bergamot, cypress and grounding.  So change it up depending on your mood and the oils that you have on hand.  These are meant to make your life easier, not more difficult.

Holiday Cheer with a Diffuser

images

I love this time of year.  The air starts to turn crisp, the leaves turn brilliant colors, and I just can’t help but be inspired by the Holiday spirit.    But some of the best things about the holidays are the smells.   Thanksgiving meals, mulled cider, apple pie, fall leaves etc.   That Woodsy, spicy, warm scent that gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.   Here is a list of oils that you can diffuse to get into that Holiday spirit.

Holiday, oils to blend

Be creative with your scents!   A standard size diffuser will take 6-8 drops of an oil to fill your home.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with your blends – that’s half the fun!   But if you need a place to get started, here are some ideas for you.

Frequencies, Notes and making your own perfumes

I’d like to share some information from across the wires

On Essential Oil Frequencies:

I know less than nothing about Essential Oil frequencies.  But reading these 2 articles I learned a lot.  And now you can too.

There are times when more than one oil is needed to help the body restore proper balance. These oils create a synergy not available in single oils. Oil molecules vibrate at frequencies that match those found in the body. When the body is out of balance, oil blends help the cells resonate at proper frequencies and restore stability.” Read more at http://www.webdeb.com/oils/frequencies.htm and http://isira.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/YL-Essential-Oils-Frequency-LA.pdf and http://www.therosefrequency.com/theScience.html

FrequencyChart

On Essential Oil blending

http://www.aromaweb.com/articles/aromaticblending.asp

Essential oils can be categorized into broad groups based on their aromas. An example categorical system is as follows:

  • Floral
    (i.e. Lavender, Neroli, Jasmine)
  • Woodsy
    (i.e. Pine, Cedar)
  • Earthy
    (i.e. Oakmoss, Vetiver, Patchouli)
  • Herbaceous
    (i.e. Marjoram, Rosemary, Basil)
  • Minty
    (i.e. Peppermint, Spearmint)
  • Medicinal/Camphorous
    (i.e. Eucalyptus, Cajuput, Tea Tree)
  • Spicy
    (i.e. Nutmeg, Clove, Cinnamon)
  • Oriental
    (i.e. Ginger, Patchouli)
  • Citrus
    (i.e. Orange, Lemon, Lime)

This author also suggests that the following oils generally blend well together (though not exclusively):

  • Florals blend well with spicy, citrusy and woodsy oils.
  • Woodsy oils generally blend well with all categories.
  • Spicy and oriental oils blend well with florals, oriental and citrus oils. Be careful not to overpower the blend with the spicy or oriental oils.
  • Minty oils blend well with citrus, woodsy, herbaceous and earthy oils.

on Essential Oil Notes

The “note” of an essential oil is based on how quickly it evaporates.  This is important information when talking about perfumes or aromatherapy because the scent may change over time depending on the notes that are used.

  • Top Note: Your first impression and the scent that will fade the quickest, within 1-2 hours. this should comprise about 50-60% of blend.
  • Middle Note:  the “heart” of the blend. It will fade after 2-4 of hours and should be about 20-40% of blend
  • Base Note: This will be the anchor to your blend and it will be the note that lasts the longest, sometimes days! This should be 5-15% of blend.

You should be VERY HAPPY to have the chart below.  I say that because I did not want to to make this chart.  I searched high and low for someone else to have categorized young living essential oils but could not find it.  I put this together by bits and pieces so save it, pin it, email it to yourself, WHATEVER so you don’t lose it!

EO notes

Generally speaking, when blending oils for a pleasing scent or perfume, you should have a top note, middle note and base note.  for aromatherapy, I like to use what I call the 321 rule.  3 drops of a top note, 2 drops of a middle note and 1 drop base note for 6 drops total.

Do you NEED to have all three?  No.

Will the smell be offensive if I don’t have all three?  No.

Will I lose any therapeutic value if I don’t have all three?  No.

This is just to guide you to make blends that have great therapeutic value AND smell great!

On making perfumes

http://www.essential-oil-recipes.com/instructions-aromatherapy-perfume-recipes.html

10 uses for Peace and Calming® Essential Oil Blend

PEACE & CALMING®

topical aromatic

Peace & Calming® is a pretty transparent oil.  Transparent in that it means what it says and says what it does.

Peace and Calming® is a gentle, fragrant blend of Orange, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Tangerine and Blue Tansy essential oils with an aroma that’s comforting and freshens the air. Diffuse to create a calming and peaceful atmosphere throughout the home. Peace & Calming is a must have for every household, especially those with young children.

peace and calming YL micro

I find that it smells mostly of Patchouli and  is a deeply relaxing and serene oil to diffuse.  Have you ever been to a hypnotist show? Or done one of those relaxation/mediation exercises? In both of these situations you mentally imagine each part of your body, relaxing first your head, then your neck, then your shoulders etc, each body part getting heavier and heavier,  you melt into the bed and couldn’t move if you wanted to.  This the reaction I get from Peace & Calming® but with much less effort.

Here are some other uses for  Peace & Calming® essential oil blend.

  1. Calm: Helps create a calming and relaxing environment when diffused or used topically
  2. Children: Diffuse to promote a calming environment for children or in my case, grumpy husbands.
  3. Bath: Add a few drops to Epsom salt before adding to a bath for a relaxing soak. Have someone come check on you after a while – you don’t want to turn into a prune!
  4. Meditation: Offers a peaceful aroma for yoga and meditation when diffused.PC
  5. Massage: Massage Peace & Calming essential oil blend on the reflex points of the feet and back of the neck for a soothing and relaxing effect.
  6. Holidays: Visiting in-laws?  Peace and calming will be your best friend 🙂
  7. Mind: Calm an overactive mind with 2-3 drops rubbed onto legs or arms. Pair with lavender for a great smelling and effective nighttime routine
  8. Perfume: Use as perfume behind ears and on wrists. Alternately, add to a diffuser necklace or a silk scarf to have the scent with you all day long!
  9. Pets: Rub Peace & Calming essential oil blend behind overactive pets’ ears after an afternoon of playing with the kids.
  10. Relaxation and rest: Rub Peace & Calming essential oil blend on feet to release tension and promote a good night’s rest.
  11. Diffuse: Diffuse Peace & Calming to freshen the air.

Cruising the web I found my favorite testimonial EVER at Essential Wellness

Mary E. Hoose submitted the following tip:
“I have a work associate who was getting married and was very nervous. I gave her a bottle of Peace and Calming® and she used it for about three months …. The big day arrived and she even put Peace and Calming® on a cotton ball and placed it in the center of her bouquet. Every time she [wanted a peaceful and relaxing environment] she would smell her bouquet. Thanks to Peace and Calming® the day went very smoothly.”

How great is that?

What are carrier oils?

Applying essential oils to skin without any dilution is referred to as applying “neat”.   If you are uncomfortable applying essential oils neat, have sensitive skin, or just covering a large area, then you can use what’s called a “carrier oil”.

Carrier oils are simply base oils that you use to dilute essential oils before applying them to the skin.   They are usually vegetable oils derived from the fatty portion of a plant, mostly from the seeds, kernels or the nuts.

Carrier oils are typically cold pressed as heat will deteriorate any therapeutic property of the oils.  Also, carrier oils can go rancid so it’s best to read the label and know what the life span is before mixing in your precious essential oils.  Most oils that you purchase in a grocery store will not be cold pressed so you will have better luck at a health food store.

Outside of processing method (cold pressed vs. heat pressed) and shelf life, you may want to look at the color, aroma, nutrients, viscosity, feel and price of any carrier oil you are considering.

Coconut oil is very popular carrier oil.  Let’s try an experiment – go to Amazon right now and type in “coconut oil” in the search box and see what comes up.  Completely overwhelming, isn’t it.

Yeah, exactly my point

Yeah, exactly my point

Below you’ll see a chart of some common carrier oils and their properties.   (Please note this is not an exhaustive list – please fee free to mention your favorites in the comment section if I didn’t mention it!)  You’ll notice that mineral oil is not included in this list.  This is because mineral oil does not penetrate the skin and therefore essential oils will not be absorbed.

Essential Oil Accessories!!

What fun is a new obsession if you can’t accessorize properly?  Shopping is half the fun, after all.

Check out this adorable box I purchased at Hobby Lobby for cheap.  It was just the perfect size for all the oils that came in the everyday oils premium starter kit.  Little did I know that I would outgrow it very quickly, but still, adorable, right?  I’ll just have to re-purpose it somewhere.

case oils

To protect the aromatic and therapeutic properties of your essential oils, store them in amber or cobalt blue bottles as this helps to keep out the deteriorating sunlight.  These dark colored dropper bottles, spray bottles and roller bottles I purchased off of Amazon for cheap.  And the little glass Ball pickling jars I bought at Joann Fabrics for less than a $1/each.

access

spray bottle – lavender spray for my pillowcase

dropper bottles – carrier oil and a custom blend of oils for healing and for lymphatic flow

Roller bottle – carrier oil and custom blend for headaches

Jar – base lotion plus custom blend for relieving aches and pains

Obviously, I NEED them all!

Also, I need another diffuser.  The diffuser that comes with the starter kit is wonderful.  It’s so wonderful, in fact, that I need one for work as well.   You have 2 options that come with the premium starter kit.  The white aroma diffuser is $10 more but I liked the sleek design and the fact that it covers a larger square footage.  Perhaps I’ll purchase the home diffuser as well just so I can have some different options.

PSK diffusers

Outside of the Amazon, there’s another site which has a lot of good options for accessories –  http://www.abundanthealth4u.com.  There you can buy bottles, cases, diffusers, shea butter and pretty much whatever you need to accessorize your new obsession 🙂

Happy Shopping!
